THE BEAUTIFUL HOME
Interested in commissioning a houseplan?
The Beautiful Home is a history of us, we Americans, our traditions and innovations, our goodness and neighborliness as seen in centuries of American homes.
The Beautiful Home is a reference guide for homebuyers, home builders, and home lovers, a place for each American to see himself or herself in our American story.
We each have a fondness for this or that style of house, and each style suggests a homey sentiment, a familial affection, an attachment to an idea larger than ourselves. The Beautiful Home shows to us our sentiments, our affections and attachments.
The Beautiful Home offers advice on building styles and techniques, patterns of design, construction hints and guidelines; it is an architectural primer that includes photographs of historic homes, diagrams and line illustrations of historical details.
Begun in 1988 as a story of the American Dream as seen in the history of the American Home, The Beautiful Home updates each American regional and period house style to allow contemporary living in classic beauty.
Architectural Prints Collection
The Beautiful Home’s 2021 Architectural Prints Collection (shown here) includes Georgian, Greek Revival, Mid-Century Modern, and Jeffersonian compositions in horizontal elevation and in vertical plan with elevation. Also available, the Jefferson Doric Porch and The Greek Orders.
Information on the 2022 collection can be found at this Beautiful Home link. The 2023 collection will include Renaissance Revival, Art Deco, and Tidewater house styles, with the addition of church and chapel architectural drawings.
The Beautiful Home Architectural Prints Collection continues the Renaissance tradition of precedent, precision, invention and beauty in architectural drawing. Michael Curtis was trained in copper and steel engraving by master Dennis Galffy. Mr. Curtis is also an architectural historian and sculptor, and these disciplines add context and solidity to each architectural composition.
Mr. Curtis designed The New American Home 2011, the nation’s most prestigious house and model for America’s building industry (products, design, and technological innovation). His other monuments, memorials, and houses are found coast to coast.
